The Johnson Brook trail, located on the County Road in Milford, Maine offers hikers some unique finds. An active beaver lodge is just a short stroll from the parking lot or more intrepid hikers can take the loop trail through the cedar forest. Surrounded by trees as we are in Maine, the cedar stand on Johnson Brook is a rare opportunity to experience a mature cedar ecosystem. The loop portion of Johnson Brook has over a 1,000 feet of boardwalk thanks to wonderful volunteers and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Portions of the trail are wet in the spring or after heavy rains. The trail is a moderate 3.5 mile hike.
The refuge is open to hunting. It is recommended to wear safety orange year round. During the summer, dress for bugs.
